Graffiti is criminal damage and must stop

In response to a recent outbreak of graffiti in Sheringham, North Norfolk District Council has said that it will be working with the Police and site owners to take whatever action is necessary to end such anti-social behaviour.

“Covering walls and hoardings with graffiti is more than vandalism,” said Steve Blatch, Strategic Director, Communities, for North Norfolk District Council, “it’s criminal damage and the District Council won’t tolerate it, wherever it happens. The Council has already spoken with the Police and is quite prepared to take legal action against anyone involved in acts such as this, whoever they are and whatever their motive might be.”

Of particular concern is graffiti that has appeared on a site hoarding shielding preparatory construction work on Cromer Road, Sheringham.

“This is a very prominent site at the entrance to the town,” said Penny Bevan Jones, NNDC Cabinet member and portfolio -holder for Supporting Communities, “and the graffiti gives an unacceptable image of Sheringham to visitors and local people just as we are reaching the peak of the visitor season. Whoever is doing it should stop. Their behaviour is only harming Sheringham and its reputation.”
