Mundesley Coastal Management Scheme
We are now in the process of delivering the Mundesley Coastal Management scheme.
The scheme seeks to reduce the risk of erosion of the vulnerable cliffs along almost 2km of the Mundesley coastline.
The Mundesley Coastal Management Scheme seeks to:
- Deliver the Shoreline Management Plan policy for Mundesley over the next 50 years.
- Stop cliff erosion where possible and continue to slow the rate of losses elsewhere.
- Manage and maintain the beach.
The coastal management works will be designed mainly following the preferred option from the Mundesley Coastal Management Outline Business Case (OBC) from 2018. It will also incorporate other work elements detailed in the scope following a recent workshop and discussions with NNDC.
The works will involve repairs to:
- 11 groynes
- navigation beacons
It will also include:
- re-levelling and re-surfacing areas of the east promenade
- access improvement works
- rock protection
Designers Mott MacDonald produced the final designs for the scheme, which is being delivered by Coastal Partnership East on behalf of NNDC.
Construction works started in February, with the installation of a compound for contractors Balfour Beatty, who are constructing this scheme.
