General election
The UK Government has announced that a General Election will be held for parliamentary constituencies across the UK on Thursday 4 July 2024.
North Norfolk District Council manages the election for the North Norfolk Parliamentary Constituency area as well as 19 polling stations in the new Broadland and Fakenham Parliamentary Constituency, namely towns and villages which sit within the Lancaster North and South (Fakenham), The Raynhams, Stibbard and Walsingham District Wards.

How to vote
Voting in person
Applications to register to vote in the general election must be made by 11.59pm on Tuesday, 18 June 2024.
When registering, you need your National Insurance number and to answer some simple questions.
Change of address
If you have changed address, you will need to re-register even if you have told the Council this in relation to Council Tax, as this is separate from any electoral registration.
You will also need to re-apply for a postal or a proxy vote if this was an arrangement you previously had at an old address.

Postal and proxy votes
The deadline for new postal proxy votes and changes to existing postal or proxy votes is 5pm on Wednesday 19 June 2024. You can apply for a postal vote online or download a postal vote application form to print and complete on paper.
New proxy votes
The deadline for new proxy vote applications (not including postal proxies) is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024. You can apply for a proxy vote online or download proxy vote application form to print and complete on paper.

Voter ID
Anyone wishing to vote at a polling station must show an accepted form of identification to receive a ballot paper, including a nominated proxy voting on behalf of someone else.

The deadline to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024.
Voter ID frequently asked questions
You do not need to apply for a new Voter Authority Certificate if you applied for one ahead of the previous local elections in May 2023 or the Police and Crime Commissioner Election in May 2024 unless your certificate has been lost or destroyed.
Overseas voters
Following a change in UK Government legislation, the 15-year limit on voting for British citizens living overseas has been removed. Since 16 January 2024, any British citizen who was previously registered to vote in the UK, was previously resident in the UK or moved overseas before 18 years of age can now register to vote based on their last UK address regardless of how long they have lived overseas.
The registration deadline for the general election is 11.59pm on Tuesday 18 June 2024. If you cannot vote at your registered polling station, you must apply for a postal vote or proxy voting application by the following dates:
Postal voting: 5pm on Wednesday 19 June 2024
Proxy applications: 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024
