Privacy notice: Custom and self-build housing register
The Council has a duty to process and store your personal information safely and securely in line with data protection legislation. In this instance, this means the General Data Protection Regulations (Regulation (EC) 2016/679, which is in force from 25 May 2018) (GDPR) and any national implementing laws, regulations and secondary legislation, as amended or updated from time to time, in the UK and then any successor legislation to the GDPR.
North Norfolk District Council, Holt Road, Cromer, Norfolk, NR27 9EN, is the data controller for the GDPR and associated domestic law.
How we will use your information
We will use your personal information for the purposes of discharging our duty to:
- maintain a register of people who are interested in constructing a self or custom-built home
- have regard to the register in exercising our planning and housing functions
- grant sufficient planning permissions to meet the demand as demonstrated by those on Part 1 of the register.
The processing of this information is necessary for the Council to carry out a task for the public interest or for its official functions when the task or function has a clear basis in law. In this instance, the Self-build and Customer Housebuilding Act 2015, and the Housing and Planning Act 2016.
Your data will be used for these specific purposes. They may also be shared between Council departments and other agencies where there is lawful authority to do so.
Your personal information will be kept strictly confidential. It will be stored separately from other information in a secure, password-protected database on the Council's computer system. We will only use your data within the terms of the data protection law. The Council will review dates to keep personal data in the future and update these privacy notices if necessary.

Your rights
You have the right to see copies of all the data held about you, to ask for it to be corrected or deleted, to request the Council to restrict what is does with your data in certain circumstances, to object to what the Council may do with your data, and to data portability.
These rights are not absolute, and there are circumstances where they do not apply, or the Council may override them. However, if this is the case, you will be informed.
