North Norfolk District Council is proud to have received the Green Flag Award for Holt Country Park, Pretty Corner Woods and Sadler’s Wood for 2024.

2024 marks the 20th consecutive year that Holt Country Park has received the prestigious Green Flag Award.

The Countryside team continues to work hard every year to ensure that the woodlands are well-maintained and exceptional natural outdoor spaces for everyone to enjoy.

The Green Flag Award scheme is managed by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy. Each year, they set requirements that parks and green spaces have to meet and continue improving. These requirements include:

  • Excellent park management
  • Meeting accessibility requirements
  • Must be easily navigable with directional signage and information boards
  • Must be a clean space for residents and visitors
  • Good litter and waste management
  • Providing a healthy, safe and secure environment
  • Environmental management
  • Community involvement
  • Conservation of biodiversity, landscape and heritage

The Council’s green spaces regularly hold community engagement events, where visitors can engage in activities such as tree planting or giveaways, volunteer conservation days and family events.

Colin Brown, Leisure and Locality Services Manager at North Norfolk District Council said:

“We are delighted to have been awarded three Green Flags once again this year. These awards are testament to another 12 months of hard work by our Countryside Team and the management and volunteers who support them. We are already working hard towards 2025’s awards with lots of ideas, innovation, engagement and improvements being planned and discussed.

"Despite the recent run of poor weather our sites continue to be well attended as local residents and visitors to the district enjoy all that our green spaces have to offer, so it is great that we can fly the flag for another year giving confidence to our visitors that they are visiting a quality green space.”

Cllr Liz Withington, portfolio holder for Community, Leisure & Outreach, said:

"Achieving Green Flag status for our NNDC open spaces is a source of great pride for the entire Council. A great deal of hard work, strategic thinking, and passion for our important green spaces goes into consistently improving these vital green heartlands in North Norfolk. They reflect our commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of our residents, as well as the creation of habitat corridors and increasing biodiversity.

"Volunteers play a crucial role in achieving this, and we welcome individuals to get involved in our Green Flag projects. Contact the Countryside team if you would like to participate.”

Throughout the summer holidays, Pretty Corner Woods and Holt Country Park host many events catering to adults, children, and families. These include orienteering, self-led trails, activity days, and creative events such as rock painting and woodcraft animals.
