North Norfolk District Council’s Coastwise initiative has recently partnered with Norfolk and Waveney Mind to fund and support their new sUStain Coastal pilot project.

The project will provide opportunities to explore and support well-being in communities facing the challenges of coastal erosion, with events in Happisburgh and Trimingham.

Norfolk and Waveney Mind are hosting a launch event for the pilot project in Happisburgh on Friday, 25 October, at St Mary’s Church Rooms (NR12 0AB) from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

The Coastal Community Listening Event will be an open space for North Norfolk coastal residents to share their thoughts, feelings, or concerns about the future of Happisburgh or Trimingham. Residents and locals will also have a chance to share what well-being and emotional support the communities need, connect with fellow community members, and help shape the sUStain Coastal project.

Everyone is welcome. Tea, coffee, and cake will be available, along with a friendly face in a welcoming environment.

Cllr Harry Blathwayt, portfolio holder for Coast, said:

“Living within the sound of the sea is a dream of many, however when living on our eroding coast can cause challenges and anxiety. I am really proud that Coastwise and Mind are working together to help alleviate some of this stress.”

Through this partnership, Norfolk and Waveney Mind are also delivering one-to-one, short-term therapy sessions by phone or online for residents in the coastal risk zone who are at immediate threat of losing their homes or businesses.

Norfolk and Waveney Mind have been running sUStain projects since 2022 to support communities in Norwich and along the Norfolk coast to address the emotional impacts of climate change and coastal erosion.
