Coastwise Creative Competition announces winners

Date published: 28th February 2025
The Coastwise Creative Competition launched in December, asking local people to submit entries in response to the question, How can we communicate coastal change along the North Norfolk coast, its impacts on coastal communities and the benefits of preparing and adapting?
The competition closed for applications at the end of January. We were delighted to receive an array of media in the submissions, including a dance piece, illustrations, sculptures, paintings, poems, a short book, photographs and drawings.
Entrants ranged from established artists to some aspiring young creatives, and all shared work which was of a high standard, showing a real understanding of the artistic brief.
Judges were looking for entries that meet one or more of the following criteria:
• Communication of coastal change and adaptation in an interesting way
• Place-based stories from the North Norfolk coast related to the impacts and the need to prepare for coastal erosion
• Actions that can be taken to adapt to the impacts of coastal erosion or climate change
• Entries that could raise awareness of coastal change and adaptation
Cllr Harry Blathwayt, portfolio holder for Coast, said:
“The standard of entries was very high; we were delighted to see many amazing paintings, illustrations and unique entries. Congratulations to all of the winning entries and to those who have been shortlisted.”

The finalists and shortlisted entries will be displayed in a free to visit exhibition at the Simon Aspinall Wildlife Centre at the Cley Visitors Centre between Tuesday, 18 March and Tuesday 6 May 2025.
