The Council is consulting on its Gambling Statement of Principles, which is a licensing policy around gambling permits and premises in North Norfolk.

Under the Gambling Act 2005, the Council sets out policies and principles that define how gambling can take place in the district, including protections for the consumer, or limitations for the premises.

Gambling licenses are granted under the proviso that gambling;

• is not used in a criminal way or to support crime or used in a criminal way

• conducted fairly and openly as to not extort or disadvantage the consumer

• not exploitative or harmful towards young or vulnerable persons

Cllr. Callum Ringer, portfolio holder for IT, Environmental & Waste Services said:

“Like all commercial sectors we issue licenses for, it’s important that our policies ensure the safety of residents and that premises are capable of delivering the conditions we might expect.

Gambling is well-regulated by the Gambling Commission and the Council is committed to ensuring it’s carried out safely.”

The consultation runs for 6 weeks, ending on Thursday 24 April 2025.
