Find out a premises food hygiene rating.

The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) helps customers choose where to eat out or shop for food by telling you how seriously the business takes its food hygiene standards.

Each business in North Norfolk is given a hygiene rating after inspection by a food safety officer from North Norfolk District Council’s Commercial Team.

Each inspection looks at:

  • how hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
  • the condition of the structure of the buildings – the cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities
  • how the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe

At the end of the inspection, the business is rated from 0-5. The top rating of ‘5’ means that the business was found to have ‘very good’ hygiene standards.

Hygiene ratings for food businesses in north Norfolk, and more information about the scheme, are available from the Food Standards Agency website and is designed to be used on mobile devices. Apps are also available for looking up food hygiene ratings on tablet, smartphone or other mobile devices from the usual outlets.

These ratings, based on regular inspections, enable you to make an informed choice about where you choose to eat out or shop for food; they give a good indication of what's going on behind the scenes in the kitchen.

Please bear in mind that the hygiene ratings do not reflect the quality of food or the standard of service provided to customers.
