Apply to join the housing list for affordable housing vacancies in North Norfolk

There is a severe shortage of homes in the North Norfolk area. Most applicants on the housing list will have to wait a long time for re-housing. Depending on your circumstances you may wish to consider other options such as renting in the private sector.

To be considered for a property, you must join the housing list and make a 'bid' for the property or properties you are interested in. All properties available to rent are advertised through the Your Choice Your Home website.

What am I eligible to bid for?

When you join the housing list your welcome letter will tell you what size of property you are eligible to bid for.  Depending on the size of your household you may also be able to bid for smaller properties.

Our downloadable guide will help you see what size and type of property you are eligible to bid for.

What help is available?

If you need help applying to join the housing list, please contact us by phone or email or pop in to see us at the Council’s Cromer office and we will be pleased to help.  We can also make bids on behalf of applicants if they could not make bids for themselves and have no family member, friend or support organisation who could bid on their behalf.  If you need this help, please state this when you apply to join the housing list or contact us.

Where can I see the property adverts?

Properties are advertised online on the Your Choice Your Home website. Copies of the Property Lists that show the adverts for all the currently advertised properties are available to view at the Council’s office, Victory Housing Trust’s offices and libraries in North Norfolk.

There are two self service computers in the new Housing reception area at the Council’s Cromer office, and a further self serve computer at Victory Housing Trust’s office in North Walsham, where applicants can log on to the Your Choice Your Home scheme to view adverts and make bids.  If you need help to use the scheme please ask at the Cromer office for help and we will be pleased to show you how the scheme works.

To apply you will need:

  • National Insurance number
  • 5-year housing history (including landlords details)
  • income details including savings/debts
  • full addresses of family members living in North Norfolk (if applicable)
