JW Automarine

Based in Fakenham, JW Automarine is a world leader in subsea lift bags. Established in 1972, they have grown from a small manufacturer of underwater lift bags to one of the largest PVC lift bag and bespoke product manufacturers globally. Their distinctive ‘yellow bags’ and diver logo have made them recognisable worldwide and trusted as a leader in their field.

JW Automarine’s core business focusses on the marine industry with specialist underwater lift bags and water load test bags. Their bespoke products are supplied to an array of industries. They have previously worked with the film industry where they have made props for James Bond films. They have worked with NASA to help with astronaut weightless training in a swimming pool, imitating the feeling of zero gravity.

Their water load test bag was developed from the initial design of the underwater lift bag. The designs have gone through a period of consistent evolution in order to create a safe and robust product within the strict regulations of the industries they operate within.

With the continual development of their lift bag over time, the R&D invested by the business has helped them to become leaders on the global stage in subsea equipment for marine projects. These include: the lifting of sunken artefacts; modern day cable laying; clearing unexploded bombs and torpedoes from the worlds shipping lanes; and rescuing whales and dolphins.

JW Automarine have recently designed and manufactured the largest known water bag at 125 tons.

The use of top-quality materials, robust designs and manufacturing capabilities ensures their products are manufactured for longevity. Added to the fact that many of their staff have been employed for over 25 years, the company’s manufacturing experience is a major contributing factor to their competitive advantage.

We’ve worked very closely with the council over the years and they’ve invested into the business. They’ve helped us develop the site, they’ve offered assistance in all sorts of manners. We are working with them to develop JW Automarine in the North Norfolk area.John Roberts,
